Cheerleading Rules & Regulations
General Rules
All rules in the Pop Warner Rule Book will be followed, but if a question arises, these rules, listed below, will take precedence:
- There are NO EXCEPTIONS to these rules.
- There is a chain of command. If there are ANY problems they must first be brought to the Coaches' attention. If you go to the Cheer Director BEFORE talking to the coach, you will be directed back to the coach.
- Address the coach before and after practice ONLY.
- Being in the program means you may be PART of the program. The cheerleader must demonstrate a positive and respectful attitude towards coaches, teammates and competitors.
- Practice is one of the most important parts of being involved in the cheer program and should not be missed with the exception of an acceptable reason, which will be decided upon by the coach.
- All punishments will be given out on a three-strike basis. When a cheerleader reaches 3 strikes during the football season they will be removed from the team.
- Disrespect will NOT be tolerated. The cheerleader will receive ONE warning for this and the second time they will be immediately removed from the team, with no exceptions. Disrespect includes talking back, talking while the coach is talking, questioning the authority of the coach, rolling of eyes, mumbling under breath and anything else the coach deems as intolerable.
- Cheerleaders trying out for the school squads should notify the coach of their intent so she can make changes to her squad if that cheerleader should make the school team and drop from our program.
- If you are a year-round student be sure you communicate any vacations/plans to the coach so she can plan her season accordingly.
- Notice to the coach (phone call or e-mail) is required in order to be excused from practice.
- No chewing gum or candy. This will result in a demerit, three of these will result in a strike against the cheerleader.
- Any cheerleader who does not act in an exemplary manner to be representing CPW with behavior deemed inappropriate by the coaches or administrators will be immediately dismissed from the program.
- DO NOT relay messages via other athletes. You must personally deliver all messages to coaches yourself.
Practice Rules
- Any missed practice without contacting the coach for an excused absence will result in a strike.
- Arrive at practice on time as three tardies will be deemed and absence. Come dressed in shorts (not nylon), sturdy athletic sneakers (not sandals, shoes or flip flops), hair pulled back off the face and shoulders, no jewelry, and a water bottle.
- Stunting can dangerous and requires concentration. Laughing, fooling around, not maintaining eye contact while stunting will result in a demerit.
Game Rules
- Game time is for performing, do not go in the stands to talk with family or friends. It will result in a demerit. There will be no eating during games including halftime.
- Any other inappropriate behavior at games/practices will be punished by demerits as the coach sees fit.
- No jewelry is to be worn during practice or games. All hair will be pulled back off the shoulders.
- Nail polish will not be worn, and nails are to be trimmed at ALL TIMES during the season, including practices. If you can see the nail from the back of the hand it is too long.
- All cheerleaders are responsible for purchasing league approved cheerleading shoes and poms.
- Cheerleaders will return all pieces of their uniform when the cheerleading season ends, with ALL pieces cleaned. The itemized tag with name and all articles washed must also be included. The cheerleader will pay for all lost/destroyed/damaged pieces. An average uniform costs $200.00.
